What does being an approved VA Community Care provider mean?

As an approved VA Community Care provider, Seniors Helping Seniors^® in-home services can help your family put that help within reach. Being an approved provider in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Community Care Network means the VA has authorized us to deliver care directly to Veterans in our community and to bill the VA on their behalf.

In practical terms, your parent may be able to receive compassionate in-home support without traveling to a VA facility, and your family won't have to navigate the paperwork alone. The VA authorizes community care before it begins. We walk beside you through every step, from whether your parent qualifies to getting services started.

Which VA benefits can bring care into the home?

Two VA benefits in particular can make a meaningful difference for Veterans who want to keep living independently at home.

Benefit 1

The Homemaker/Home Health Aide benefit

The VA's Homemaker/Home Health Aide benefit brings a trained Caregiver into your parent's home to help with the everyday tasks that become harder with age: bathing, dressing, grooming, meal preparation, getting around the house, and other daily routines. The VA notes the benefit "can serve Veterans of any age."

a trained person who can come to a Veterans home and help the Veteran take care of themselves and their daily activities

Because our Caregivers are seniors themselves, many with their own connection to military family life, the relationships that grow through this benefit often feel less like a service and more like a genuine friendship. Per the VA, this support can be combined with other VA home and community-based services as your parent's needs evolve; a copay may apply depending on service-connected disability status.

Respite Care

Respite Care offers you something just as valuable: a break. If you or another family member has been carrying the day-to-day care of your parent, VA-funded respite lets you rest, travel, or simply catch your breath, knowing your parent is in caring, capable hands.

a program that pays for care for a short time when family caregivers need a break, need to run errands, or need to go out of town for a few days

Respite can take place right in your parent's home or, when needed, through a short stay with a qualified VA-contracted provider, and it's designed to support your whole family, not just the Veteran.

Eligibility

Who is eligible for VA in-home care?

Per the VA, enrolled Veterans qualify when they meet the clinical criteria, the service is available locally, and, for care from a community agency, they meet community care eligibility. Every Veteran's situation is different, so rather than sorting through the details alone, let our team help.

One related note: Veterans or surviving spouses on a VA pension who need help with daily activities may also qualify for Aid and Attendance, a monthly amount added to the pension (va.gov/pension (opens in new tab)). It is a pension add-on, not a care service; some families put it toward in-home care.

A free care visit. We come to the home, meet your parent, and note the daily-living needs the VA will ask about.
Working with the VA. We guide the application and work alongside your parent's VA social worker to get authorization moving.
Care begins. Once the VA authorizes services, we match a Caregiver by personality, pace, and schedule, and bill the VA on your parent's behalf.

Does the VA pay for in-home care for Veterans?

It can.
